First day of summer

21 Jun

It has been waaaay too long since I last posted. Way too long. Things have been incredibly busy with wedding season having started. In between shoots, Ive just been spending my time editing the pictures. Im trying to cut down the time it takes me to edit a shoot. Some dont take long while others seem to take way too long. The ones that take longer I usually end up doing several iterations until I am satisfied with the final outcome. In photography news, Nikon has released the Nikon 50mm 1.8G. Very interesting lens. I havent tried it out yet, however reviews I have read said that it is an excellent lens. If choosing between the 1.8G and the 1.4G, I would go with the 1.8G. We currently use the Sigma 50mm 1.4 since when I tested the Sigma and Nikon 1.4g for about a month I felt the Sigma is better. So far it has been a useful lens.. The only issue I would say it has is the harsh CA. Why I would spend less money and grab the 1.8 is because you will find that you can rarely use 1.4 since it is a very shallow depth of field. It has very specific uses. So even with our 1.4 Sigma we find ourselves using atleast 1.8 aperture to get the subject in focus.

Alright so today is the first day of SUMMER! Hopefully the weather will cooperate and make us feel like its summer. Ofcourse one of the most common rituals of summer only behind having BBQs is getting the vehicles washed. So for todays pics the rides are ready for the sun… All shots taken with Nikon D700 24-70mm f2.8 Edited and sharpened using photoshop.

Position – Strategy – Execution

Played a non-serious game of chess with my son. He set his pieces up himself. I got this chess board over 15 years ago when I was a kid. Its had its fair share of games. Id like to see a $20 chess board bought today last 5 years let alone 15!

The Modern Christmas Light

2 Jan

It is 2011…. In four more years Marty Mcfly and Doc will be riding the Delorean into the future… 2015. So how similar is the vision they had when they made Back to the Future Part II. Recently I watched the movie with my 4.5 year old son and he loved it. He kept asking for a hover board, which really reminded me of when I was a kid wanting a hover board.  It also was interesting to notice the vision they had for 2015 in the movie and how it compares to our reality today. Throughout this year I will be having some fun looking at the vision they had for the movie.

The first picture above was taken by the Sigma 50mm 1.4g. Love the Bokeh on it. The last two images are using the Nikon 50mm 1.4g which is a great lense as well.

For now I will have a look at the modern Christmas light.  I was walking in Downtown Vancouver tonight and noticed a few people around the city that still had their Christmas lights up. What was interesting is no one had the traditional red, green, blue small light bulb type of lights. Over the years there have been quite a few advancements in the Christmas light world that have flew under cover. Many Christmas lights now use LED so they tend to be brighter and more efficient. Also although many people still put up the traditional colors, many are now putting up what I call the modern Christmas light. One solid color such as blue or white. Personally I am a fan as they tend to look very clean and contemporary.
